Why should a reporter engage a writing coach?
From my own experience, I’ve found every reporter and magazine writer (including me) can be helped by a writing coach.
I can coach you, one-on-one, via this website whether you write for a newspaper, magazine or online.
Over the last dozen years, I’ve coached more than 300 reporters, at The Washington Post, Memphis Commercial Appeal, Buffalo News and ten other papers.
When papers post sign-up sheets, not only beginning reporters but also reporters with long experience sign up for coaching.
Why?
They know that improving the quality of their writing can give them a leg up in their newspaper careers. I can help you do that.

Why should an editor bring in a coach?
Because it is cost-effective training. Here is what James T. Foudy and Rebecca L. Pierce say about that in the ASNE’s The Learning Newsroom:
“Do-it-yourself training programs reap benefits over time. But, for the most immediate staff wide impact, nothing comes close to a writing coach. It is one of the most visible and memorable signs of a newspaper’s commitment to training.
“At small dailies, with the least experienced reporters and most overworked line editors, a writing coach brought in for group and one-on-one sessions with the staff can be a low-cost way to improve news and feature writing.”
You know your paper is only as good as its reporters. I work specifically to improve their reporting and writing.
